How to Configure Your Barcode Scanner for Counter Sales in 10X ERP

Most USB barcode scanners can be programmed to work hands-free with the Counter Sales Scan tool, so a single trigger pull opens the scan window, reads the item, and confirms it automatically. This is configured on the scanner itself using its prefix and suffix settings, not inside 10X ERP. The goal is to have each scan send the F2 key (which opens the scan tool), then the barcode, then Enter (which confirms the item).

  • Set the Prefix to F2—the prefix is sent before the barcode and opens the scan window. This requires a scanner that supports sending function keys.
  • Set the Suffix to Enter—the suffix is sent after the barcode and confirms the scan. Most scanners default the suffix to Enter already (Tab also works).
  • Program the Scanner One of Two Ways: scan the configuration barcodes in your scanner's programming manual, or use the manufacturer's configuration software (for example, Zebra 123Scan, Honeywell EZConfig, or Datalogic Aladdin).
  • Confirm Your Scanner Supports Function Keys—Enter and Tab are standard on every scanner, but F2 is a function key and not all budget models can send it. Look for “function key” or “F-key” support in the scanner's manual before purchasing.
  • Test It on a Counter Sale Order—one trigger pull should open the scan tool, enter the item, and add it to the order without any manual clicks.
  • If Your Scanner Cannot Send F2, you can still scan items, but you will need to open the scan window manually (the Scan button or the F2 key on your keyboard) before each scan.
