Close and Reopen Accounting Periods

This guide explains how to close and reopen an accounting period in 10X ERP by updating the General Ledger Closing Date. The system automatically handles AR and AP period processing, so you only need to set the date that prevents prior transactions from being edited. Once the Closing Date is updated and confirmed (with the GL Reopen Password, if enabled), all transactions before that date are locked from modification. If changes are needed, simply backdate the Closing Date to reopen the period, then reset it again after updates are complete.

  • Navigate to Admin > Accounting to access the General Ledger section where the Closing Date is maintained.
  • Locate the Closing Date Field in the General Ledger section to review the current lock date for transactions.
  • Update the Closing Date to the first day of the new period (for example, February 1) to lock all transactions prior to that date from being edited, deleted, or modified.
  • Click the Check Mark to Save and enter the GL Reopen Password if prompted to confirm the period close.
  • Access Settings to Manage the GL Reopen Password if you need to view or update the password used when closing or reopening a period.
  • Backdate the Closing Date to reopen a prior period when corrections or Journal Entries need to be entered.
  • Reset the Closing Date After Changes Are Complete to re-lock the period and prevent further modifications.
