How to Configure Taxes

To set up sales tax codes in 10X ERP, begin by navigating to the Sales Tax section under Admin and creating a new tax code. You'll input required fields such as the code name, state, percentage, and GL account, with optional fields for county, city, or district taxes. Once saved, you can assign the tax code to entire customer accounts, customer locations or items. Be sure to validate location addresses to ensure accuracy and properly assign the tax ID to either the customer or location levels.

  • Navigate to Admin > Sales Tax, then click the plus icon in the top right to create a new sales tax code.
  • Enter a Code Name and Select the State, along with the State Tax Percentage relevant to the tax jurisdiction.
  • Add Optional Fields such as County, City, or District tax percentages if applicable to your region.
  • Select a GL Account to map the tax code for accounting purposes; check “Freight Taxable” if freight should be taxed.
  • Click the Checkmark Icon to save the tax code to the system.
  • Assign the Tax Code to a Customer or Location by opening the customer record and editing the primary location.
  • Validate the Shipping Address using the “Validate” button to ensure USPS-compliant formatting.
  • Mark the Location as Taxable, then assign the new Tax ID under the Tax Info section of the location.
  • Assign the Tax Code at the Customer Level under the customer’s Tax Info section if it applies broadly to all locations.
  • Note Item-Level Tax Options, which use Item Tax Groups and are distinct from the sales tax code; these will be covered separately.
  • Consider Using Tax Integrations like TaxJar or Avalara for advanced tax handling—contact 10X Support for more information.
    • You are also able to update sales tax via imports.
    • Tax Categories, Customer Tax Groups & Item Tax Groups are also available to create.
