Using Item Lead Time to Manage Item Purchasing and Backorders

This update introduces an item-level Lead Time field in 10X ERP that overrides the global Future Order Commit Days admin setting. It improves order and purchasing accuracy for both short and long lead time items by dynamically determining whether items should be placed on backorder or future order. The lead time is now visible across relevant tools, making planning more precise.

  • Set Lead Time on Item Records in calendar days to control when items move from backorder to future order status.
  • Override Global Admin Setting: Item-level lead time takes precedence over the system-wide "Future Order Commit Days" (e.g., 60 days for an item vs. 120 days globally).

    View Status in Sales Orders:

    • Items needed within the item lead time show as Backorder.
    • Items needed beyond it shift to Future Order, with a tooltip indicating the override.
  • Use for Long Lead Items to ensure they stay on the backorder queue even beyond the global limit.

    Monitor in Tools:

    • Backorder Tool now displays the item lead time in a new column.
    • Purchase Tool also reflects lead time for easier replenishment planning.
    • Purchase Reports and info buttons clarify whether item-specific or admin defaults are in use.
