International Shipments that require AES ITN via Ship Tool
When shipping internationally with a total value exceeding $2,500, an AES ITN (Automated Export System Internal Transaction Number) is required by U.S. Customs. It serves as proof that an export shipment's required filing has been successfully submitted and accepted.
When shipping in 10X via EasyPost, the Ship Tool will prompt users to provide the AES ITN for international orders exceeding $2,500, as required by law. EasyPost does not automate ITN's (unlike other freight tools such as UPS Worldship or FedEx Ship Manager).

Where to Obtain an AES ITN
- Submit an AES Filing: By using the US Customs ACE Portal (see details below), you can manually submit an AES filing.
- Utilize Carrier Services: Alternatively, your carrier can submit the AES filing for you, typically for an additional fee. The specific steps will vary depending on the carrier.
Setting Up an ACE Exporter Account
To submit your AES filings, you need to create an ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) exporter account with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Here's how:
- Visit the CBP Website
- Go to U.S. Customers and Border Protection to begin.
- Apply for an ACE Secure Data Portal Account
- Go to ACE Portal
- Identify the sub-account type for your company (most likely an 'Exporter').
- Designate an account owner to manage the account.
- If your sub-account type is 'Exporter', complete the application for an export account
- When finished, email it to [email protected]
- Refer to this video on how to apply for an Exporter account for guidance
- Once approved, log into your account, and create additional user accounts as needed
Submitting an AES Filing (via ACE Portal)
Once your account has been created, you can submit an AES Filing per international shipment greater than $2,500.
- Log into your US Customs ACE Portal account.
- Manually submit an AES Filing which includes all standard Commercial Invoice Information
- Note that this process takes 10-15 minutes to complete.
- Once the filing is submitted you will be provided with an AES ITN which can be entered into the Ship Tool, allowing you to proceed with the shipment.
